How to calculate VAT in Excel Documents:

How, in Excel do I write the equation that will give me an ex VAT figure? Assuming I write the total in A1 and I want the ex VAT figure to appear in B1?

Here is the answer

In this particular point someone wants to work out what the VAT part of the figure is, and then leave themselves with a figure that is before VAT is applied. The calculation is based on the current VAT rate being 17.5%

The formula in cell B1 therefore would be:

=SUM((A1/117.5)*100)

If however you wanted to reverse the situation, example the figure in A1 does NOT include VAT, but you wanted the figure in B1 to be inclusive of VAT, then the formula in cell B1 would be as shown below:

=SUM((A1*117.5)/100)

I'd be pleased to help, but don't have any expertise, MrT- the last time I wrote macros/formulae for spreadsheets was with VisiCalc and Lotus123, which understandably don't work in Excel

You and our esteemed poster Putz are streets ahead of me Thumbs Up

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I don't feel terribly smart at all at the moment

Oh well....
